Nepton helped improve efficiency at Marttiini

Nepton has been Marttiini’s worktime management partner for more than eight years. Nepton’s digital solution has significantly improved productivity at Marttiini.

Nepton has been the worktime management partner of Finnish knife manufacturer Marttiini for more than eight years. Nepton’s digital solution has significantly increased productivity at Marttiini.

Previously, employees in Marttiini’s production operations frequently moved between different workstations throughout the day. Every time a workstation changed, they had to manually record their work team and working hours on paper. This could take several minutes of working time per employee each day.

“We wanted to move away from filling out paper slips and switch to a digital solution where the data is stored and readily available,” says Ari Paksuniemi, Chief Digital Officer at Marttiini, recalling the start of the partnership.

Another key reason for implementing a digital worktime management solution was the need to provide payroll with accurate working time data that could not be altered afterwards. Under the previous system, working hours were often rounded, in many cases to the employer’s disadvantage.

“Of course, digital time tracking benefits employees as well. Conscientious employees who used to stay late to get the job done without keeping track of the time can now be sure they are properly compensated for their overtime. Overall, our goal was to enable more efficient use of working time for both employees and the employer,” says Ari Paksuniemi.

Smooth implementation of the new system

The transition to Nepton’s system went smoothly. Nepton’s solution was later also implemented at Marttiini’s factories in Estonia, where the working culture differs considerably from that in Finland. Among employees, the increased sense of “monitoring” was initially perceived negatively, while managers have been very pleased that many forms of informal “personal time” during working hours have naturally been reduced.

“From a technical perspective, the transition was easy and straightforward. Of course, any change to established daily routines tends to generate some resistance among employees. Some people simply find change difficult, even when the change is ultimately for the better,” comments Ari Paksuniemi on the change process.

Why Nepton?

Ari Paksuniemi from Marttiini first contacted Nepton after evaluating different providers. Discussions with Nepton’s CEO, Jukka Kivistö, reinforced their confidence in the solution. As Marttiini had already been interested in partnering with a Finnish company, it was a natural step to explore Nepton’s services further.

Another important factor highlighted by Ari Paksuniemi was Nepton’s ease of integration with the systems already in use at Marttiini.

“It’s always a major advantage when interfaces to our other core systems are already in place, and Nepton had those integrations ready from the start. Compatibility with Visma and our ERP system was particularly important. Naturally, that made the implementation of the new system significantly faster,” says Ari Paksuniemi.

In practice, the implementation process was very quick, taking only a few weeks. Ari Paksuniemi has also been particularly pleased with Nepton’s excellent customer service throughout the partnership.

“Nepton has a highly knowledgeable team, and the responses always come quickly. That makes things more efficient for me as well, as I don’t have to spend my own time waiting for answers,” says Ari Paksuniemi, praising the collaboration.

Time tracking is ultimately about improving efficiency

At Marttiini, digital time tracking is seen as a clear driver of efficiency. Since recording working hours is not productive work in itself, it should take as little time as possible. Time entries need to be quick and simple to make, and that is exactly what Nepton Time Tracking enables.

Another important benefit is the system’s comprehensive reporting capabilities, which managers can use to improve production efficiency and optimise shift planning.
