Working time management from day one
Oomi provides electricity and other energy services to approximately 800,000 consumer and business customers. Its subsidiary, Oomi Solar, helps businesses and communities transition towards renewable energy through solar power plants and solar parks.
Oomi employs around 130 people, while Oomi Solar has approximately 30 employees. In addition to its own personnel, Oomi’s operations involve several hundred people working through partner organisations.

Mervi Rastinniemi, Chief People Officer at Oomi, has been involved with the company since its founding in 2020. As the new company was getting started, the fundamentals of HR also needed to be put in place quickly and efficiently.
A user-friendly working time management solution was needed to support day-to-day operations as smoothly as possible and to ensure that working time data could be easily transferred to payroll. Rastinniemi had already had positive experiences with Nepton at a previous employer, making the choice a natural one for Oomi.

“We had already used Nepton before, and our experiences were very positive. That made it easy to continue using it at Oomi as well,” Rastinniemi says.
Nepton in employees’ everyday work
Oomi’s employees work in expert roles, so working time management needs are fairly straightforward. Even so, it is important that working hours, absences, and the necessary approvals can all be managed in one place.
At Oomi, Nepton is used for recording working hours, annual leave, and other absences. The system also supports project hour and cost tracking, as well as reporting. This keeps working time data centralised in a single system, making it easily accessible for employees, managers, and administrators alike.
Managers have direct visibility into working hours
One of the key benefits of Nepton for Oomi is that managers can view their team’s working hours and balances directly in the system. This makes it easier to manage workload, support day-to-day leadership, and promote employee well-being.
Entries are reviewed and approved in Nepton, and any necessary corrections can be made there immediately. This makes working time management clear and straightforward, eliminating the need to collect information separately from multiple sources.
“It is important for managers to be able to see working time and balances in real time directly in the system,” Rastinniemi says.

Working time data flows seamlessly into payroll
Oomi’s working time data is transferred from Nepton to its external payroll provider. Because the data is recorded and approved in a single system before being transferred to payroll, the need for manual processing is reduced.
“Efficient data transfer saves resources, time, and money, while also reducing the risk of errors,” Rastinniemi summarises.
Automatic reminders make everyday work easier
Nepton’s automatic reminders for missing time entries and balance limits have provided Oomi with tangible support in day-to-day operations.
Previously, the company used a separate bot to send reminders, but now the same functionality is available directly in Nepton. This reduces the number of tasks that need to be maintained and makes work leading up to payroll processing easier in particular.
“It’s great that there’s no need to follow up separately on missing entries,” Rastinniemi says.
An established part of HR
Nepton has been used at Oomi since the company’s early days and has become a natural part of everyday HR operations. Rastinniemi highlights Nepton’s customer service in particular, as well as the comprehensive customer portal, whose guidance and instructions support users in their day-to-day use of the system.
“Nepton’s guidance is comprehensive and detailed, and it provides excellent support for a wide range of situations,” Rastinniemi says.
Oomi’s experience shows that effective working time management is not only important for organisations with complex working time models or shift work. Even in an expert organisation, a centralised solution improves transparency around working hours, reduces manual work, and supports managers as well as smooth payroll processing.
