At PunaMusta, flexibility and transparency play an important role in developing the company culture. Nepton contributes by giving employees greater opportunities to influence their own work. Employees have been highly satisfied with the new solution.
PunaMusta Media Plc is a Finnish media, visibility, and printing company employing approximately 650 professionals. The PunaMusta Media Group continues to grow and has expanded through the addition of several companies. Today, its employees work across multiple locations throughout Finland.

Previously, the Group used a variety of different approaches and practices for managing working time. Another challenge was the need to accommodate multiple collective agreements, as well as different rule sets, exceptions, and requirements related to matters such as meal breaks.
“We needed a single, unified worktime management solution for office employees across the entire group. More broadly, we are committed to adopting modern digital tools wherever possible,” says Sari Kahari, HR Coordinator, Group Services at PunaMusta Media Plc.
Recommendations and expertise guided the decision
The Group’s IT and HR teams worked together to identify the most comprehensive and modern solution available. Key requirements included, among other things, the ability to track flexible working time balances in compliance with working time legislation and to support flexible working arrangements for employees. In addition, integrations with Solaforce and Personec were required.
“While evaluating different systems, we received very positive feedback about Nepton from end users within our own organisation. In addition, Nepton had an excellent reputation and strong references,” says Sari Kahari.
“Even during the very first remote demo, Kati Hirsikangas’s expertise was clearly evident. She was able to provide a thorough explanation of the solution and answer all our questions. The implementation itself was also a very positive and efficient experience with Henna Sjöman, who led the project,” says Sari Kahari.
Nepton is an important tool for managers
Nepton Time Tracking is a valuable tool for monitoring employee workload and well-being. Previously, flexible working time balances were tracked in spreadsheets, which meant they were not always monitored effectively or taken into account. Today, Nepton is configured with a maximum working time balance limit that employees cannot exceed.
“If the workload becomes too high, managers can step in and discuss the situation with the employee and leadership. Are we focusing on the right priorities? Do we need additional resources? Should the work be organised differently?” explains Sari Kahari.
At PunaMusta, the goal is to help employees achieve a better work-life balance. Teams have the flexibility to determine their own working hours within agreed guidelines and frameworks.
“We’ve received very positive feedback from managers. One manager even wondered how we had managed before without it. And it’s no surprise, really, as the system is so easy and intuitive to use!”
Building an even stronger company culture
Increased flexibility and the ability to influence one’s own working hours have been shown to improve employee satisfaction and well-being. Since the implementation of Nepton, employee representatives have also provided positive feedback on the increased transparency. Employees, in turn, appreciate having a clear tool for tracking their working hours and balances.
“We are building a company culture where, for example, an employee in a busy stage of life can leave work during the day to pick up their children from daycare, prepare a meal for the family, and take care of other family responsibilities, then continue working later at a time that suits them,” says Sari Kahari.
“The benefits are clear. We now have a fair and consistent time tracking process, and employees’ working hours are recorded accurately. At the same time, we are increasing flexibility and building a better company culture, one that takes our employees’ needs into account even more,” says Sari Kahari.
